Which ingredients count in a recipe?

Check seafood, grains, ingredient quality and the right cooking appliance.

Final Beta · community reports reviewed October 16, 2026; not independently tested

Check the ingredient category and quality before spending rare materials. A sea fish does not fill a seafood requirement in the Final Beta.

Common ingredient mix-ups

Recipe requirement What to use
Seafood Creatures collected along the shore, rather than fish caught at sea
Grains Wheat, rice or corn
Meat, eggs or milk Buy these from Glenn’s shop
A named species Match that species; shrimp, crayfish and lobster are not interchangeable
Higher-quality ingredients Match the quality requested by the recipe, as well as the ingredient type

Check before cooking

  1. Open the recipe and read each requirement, including its quality marker.
  2. Pick the matching ingredients. Save rare variants for recipes that actually require them.
  3. Use the correct appliance. The Blender does not accept fish, seafood, meat or eggs.

In Freestyle cooking, a combination that does not match an unlocked recipe produces a mixed dish.

For ingredient refunds and failed batches, see recipe discovery.

Each ingredient slot below uses one item. Use the listed appliance and follow your current recipe’s quality requirements.

Dish Ingredients Appliance

Country-Style Congee Vegetable ×1 + grain ×1 Cooking Pot
Dazzling Juice Fruit ×2 Blender
Blissful Floral & Fruit Tea Flower ×1 + fruit or flower ×1 Cooking Pot
Crab & Clam Stir-Fry Crab ×1 + shellfish ×1 Cooking Pot

Two fruits make different dishes in the Cooking Pot and Blender. For the seafood rows, fish caught at sea is not a substitute for shore-dwelling ingredients.
